It is hard to believe that 2016 is almost over. The years seem to go faster and faster. Some of our lucky members are fleeing Illinois for warmer parts of the world. Luckily, for the rest of us, there are lots of great things planned by WLC to keep us busy as winter descends.
Thank you to everyone who attended the 2016 Fall Bridge Benefit and a huge thank you to Sharon King for chairing a very successful fundraiser. The room looked great and the food was delicious. The 44 attendees all had a great time - though some had better cards than others. We are still tallying the final proceeds, but it appears it was also a financial success.
Fall is here and our year has officially started. Our opening party was September 25th and a good time was had by the nearly 80 people who attended. There were lots of new faces, quite a few guests and many long-time members. The music, martinis and food were great and the the time flew by. Our first fundraiser as a 501c3 netted over $1000 for our philanthropy fund. A big thank you to Jane Passy and Marcie Pickard for their efforts to get the whole evening coordinated. The first event is always the hardest but Jane showed she has what it takes to give us a great year of social events.
Summer sure flew by. It is hard to believe that most of the kids are back in school and that it is time for our fall programming to begin. The WLC has worked hard all summer to get things ready for you to have a really great year. We are putting some finishing touching on a lot of the programming, but wanted to let you know about some of the events coming up in September — including our opening party. In addition to the information here, please watch for Paperless Post invitations that will be arriving shortly...
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. These past few months have been a busy time for our new board. We have been meeting almost weekly to get things ready to kick off our first full year in our forever home. When our final calendar is unveiled in September, you will see some of your old favorites, as well as a lot of wonderful new endeavors. Thank you to everyone who participated in our committee meetings and idea sessions. We could not have done it without you.
Summer appears to be here and with that comes the start of different activities for the club. We are not wasting any time since our first summer event is on June 1st. It is our annual meeting. This includes a pot luck lunch; short presentations by committees; voting on the proposed slate of officers; presentation of annual awards, scholarships and internships; and our first committee meetings of the year. This will be followed by a short final meeting of the 2016 board combined with the incoming 2016-2017 board. There is a lot of planning for the next year (which starts July 1) that gets started at the annual meeting so it is a great way to get involved and be heard, as well as honoring our outgoing board members for their many years or service to the club and hard work.
Hope everyone is having a good winter so far. For the most part, Mother Nature has been pretty good to us all and I, for one hope she continues to keep the temperatures mild and the sun shining. But, regardless of the temperatures outside, our hearts should be very warm given the fact that our new building will be opening in a few weeks. After years of planning and building, it is hard to believe that the doors will be opening in a few short weeks. Please take the opportunity to tour the building with Writers Theatre staff before it opens officially to the public. Not only will you be ahead to the masses, but you will learn all about what the building has to offer us and get answers to your questions first-hand from the experts. Check this newsletter for specifics on when and how to sign-up.
